AeroSports Update: Wolf Aircraft Hands Production Over To Griggs Aircraft

Steve Wolf Has Turned Production Of His Highly Modified Versions Of Pitts Aerobatic Aircraft Over To A Partner Company

Griggs Aircraft has always strived to be the best in their work; in avionics, paint, fabrication and maintenance. Now, in 2015, Griggs aircraft will be able to show off their precision skill sets and quality workmanship on a whole new level. It's time to build some biplanes!

Wolf Aircraft LLC says they are happy to announce that Griggs Aircraft will be continuing the Wolf Aircraft product line. The information that follows is based on releases from Wolf Aircraft and Griggs Aircraft published on their websites.

Wolf Aircraft LLC was founded by Steve Wolf in 1978. Wanting to get more performance out of his Pitts aircraft, Wolf struck up a good relationship with Curtis Pitts. Pitts gave him some ideas of how to get more performance without compromising the flying qualities and structural integrity of his design.

Wolf started modifying his Pitts S-1S with a new cowling and rod landing gear to clean it up. The results were amazing. Quicker entry speeds and top speed really helped the performance. Then came new ailerons and a wing design to enhance the faster speed and increase roll rate. The ultimate G loads were also increased to 10 positive and 8 negative, and VNE went from 204 to 229 mph.

While at EAA AirVenture, Curtis Pitts and Steve Wolf watched a performance by Sean D. Tucker flying his Pitts S-2S. After some discussion, it was decided that the S-2S could be redesigned to be stronger and perform better. That began the relationship that resulted in Wolf Aircraft building Sean D. Tucker's wings, cowling, canopy, and titanium landing gear. They then moved on to the Wolfpro 540-8, which is now called the Oracle Challenger lll. This airplane has the all new 3-D tail of carbon fiber and does things no other plane can do.

Wolf Aircraft has developed many modifications for customers on their S-1, S-2 and S-1-11 series airplanes. Wolf offers kits for upgraded performance including cowlings, landing gear, tail modifications, and the Pitts S-1 series wing kit.

With the success of the wing kit, Wolf had many customers requesting that he develop the Wolfpro 360. This is a smaller version of Tucker's and Paul Bennet's plane, with a pumped up I0-360 of around 220 hp.

Wolf says Chris Murley of Griggs Aircraft is a very talented production man with a great passion for the biplane. Murley and the fabricators at Griggs Aircraft will be taking over the finished design and producing it for customers. They will also be offering the entire line of Wolf Aircraft components along with the tech support for the products.

Steve Wolf will continue to create the prototype Wolfpro 360 Biplane. He will also be available for Pitts pre-buy evaluations, Pitts Checkouts, and Pitts Aerobatic training through WingOver Aerobatics LLC.
