Thunderbirds To Headline 2019 Ft. Wayne Air Show

Event Planned For July 6-9, 2019

The 122nd Fighter Wing, Indiana Air National Guard along with the Fort Wayne-Allen County Air Port Authority has confirmed that America’s Ambassadors In Blue, the United States Air Force (USAF) Thunderbirds will be performing here at the 2019 Fort Wayne Air Show July 6-7, 2019.

“The U.S. Thunderbirds put on a phenomenal showcase in 2016 and the Blacksnakes at the 122nd couldn't be prouder to work with the community to bring them back in 2019,” said Col Patrick Renwick, 122nd Fighter Wing Commander. “The 2019 airshow will be even better than the last and we are excited to open our wing to the community again."

Fort Wayne Air Show Inc. partners with the Fort Wayne-Allen County Air Port Authority and the 122nd to organize the aerial showcase. The event, which is free and open to the general public, showcases special performances featuring aerial displays, unique aircraft, static aircraft displays, and more.

“We are very fortunate to receive confirmation that the USAF Thunderbirds will be performing for the Fort Wayne Air Show,” said Lt Col Robins, 122nd Fighter Wing Air Show Director. “The Thunderbirds are widely sought out by numerous communities all over the country, so it is truly an honor that Fort Wayne has been chosen for 2019.”

The USAF Thunderbirds are the air demonstration squadron of the United States Air Force, founded in 1953. They are assigned to the 57th Wing based out of Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. The Thunderbirds also performed at the 2016 Fort Wayne Air Show bringing in more than 36,000 spectators. The Thunderbirds operate on a two-year cycle. This announcement will allow the airshow board of directors and partner organizations to plan and build a robust event.

The Airmen at the 122nd Fighter Wing are dedicated to supporting and defending Hoosiers and US citizens and focused on continuing positive relationships with the citizens and businesses in the surrounding community. More information will be released as it becomes available.
