Taiwan Fylin Industrial Found Guilty Of Copyright Infringement

Court Finds That Company Deliberately Copied Technical Documentation Belonging To AmSafe, Nordisk

The Taichung District Court of Taiwan has provided a written decision which finds Taiwan Fylin Industrial Company Ltd. (TFI) guilty of intellectual property infringement (a criminal violation in Taiwan) involving the copyrighted works belonging to aviation cargo equipment companies AmSafe and Nordisk Aviation Products A.S. The conviction stemmed from TFI's deliberate copying of certain technical documentation relating to both AmSafe and Nordisk products.

AmSafe said in a statement that the bootleg materials were then used by TFI in competing against AmSafe and Nordisk. As part of the criminal findings, released last month, TFI received a fine which was close to the maximum penalty permissible under the Taiwan Copyright Act.

"Our intellectual property is the embodiment of the creative efforts of our employees and is also often representative of a significant financial investment," said Terence Lyons, CEO of AmSafe Global Holdings, Inc. "We believe in aggressively pursuing those who have misappropriated our intellectual property. In this matter, we are satisfied with the decision of the District Court of Taichung."
