While at NBAA2015, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, checked in with Todd Winter, the President and CEO of True Blue Power. True Blue Power is an innovator in advanced Lithium-ion battery technology in the aviation industry, and Jim asked about the placement of their battery on the new Bell 505 helicopter.
Winter said that Bell chose their battery product because it fit their needs. He describes the advantages of the True Blue Power batteries and also said Bell has had success using their inverters and USB plug-in modules.
The discussion turns to certification of these new products, and Winter says they are moving forward with certification so that their batteries can be used as OEM installations on new aircraft. They are also continuing to obtain supplemental type certificates for existing aircraft, with the A36 Bonanza just being added to the STC’d list in Canada. It’s expected that STC will show up in the United States very soon.
Winter goes on to explain the advantages of the True Blue Power batteries as it relates to cost, extended operating capabilities, and reliability. This video provides a great way to learn more about this new technology.
