$1 Million Bolus to Expand Offerings, Equipment, Faculty for Expanded Student Body
Canada will provide $1 million in support for aviation education at Ontario area school, Confederation College.
The Government of Canada is looking to bolster the aerospace sector as the economy rebounds from the impact of the pandemic, augmenting the school's funds with a $1 million non-repayable contribution from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario.
The investment will go to support the acquisition of additional "state-of-the-art multi-engine training simulators, 5 Cessna 172 trainer aircraft, lab renovations and site improvements." Once fully implemented, the agency says the 3-year initiative should "expand program offerings, promote indigenous participation in aviation, increase domestic and international enrollment", and support the future of the domestic Canadian aerospace industry.
They hope that Confederation College will find at least 70 additional students each year, facilitated by the addition of 10 more full time employees at the school. The funding is appreciated by the school, according to president Kathleen Lynch.
"Confederation College is incredibly appreciative of the FedNor funding and the significant investment it is making in the ability of the College to meet the demands of an aviation industry that so many communities in Northern Ontario depend upon for the transportation of goods, services and people,” said Lynch in a statement publicizing the funding. "The funding also enables the College to provide and expand state-of-the-art programming for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to be successful in aviation careers.”
