Tough Weekend: WA Mid-Air Damages Two Aircraft, Pilots/Pax OK

Pitts Model 12 Overtakes Cessna Skyhawk

It was a tough weekend, as the results from the Monday accident totals revealed, as they were published a short while ago. In one of the more memorable encounters this weekend, a Pitts Model 12 (a big bipe with limited forward viz) overtook and clobbered a Cessna Skyhawk, early Sunday afternoon. The collision occurred at Skagit Regional Airport in Burlington, Washington in light winds, on a clear day, with at least 9 mile visibility. One media report quotes a witness as saying that the biplane landed 'on top of a larger Cessna plane and then tumble(d) onto its top.'

Only minor injuries were reported and all four persons involved in the accident pretty much walked away. Both aircraft were substantially damaged. Whew....
