Private Pilot Ground School Being Offered At Metropolitan State University

Fall Course Open To The Public At St. Paul, MN, School

The Aviation Management Consortium is offering a Private Pilot Ground School course this fall at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN. The course is for anyone who is interested in becoming a pilot as preparation for their private pilot written examination, or for those in the aviation industry who want to learn more about flying to broaden their career skills. Topics covered include aircraft aerodynamics and systems, air navigation, aviation charts, federal aviation regulations and air traffic control communications.

The instructor is Brian Addis, a single-engine, multi-engine and instrument flight instructor who also serves as a designated pilot examiner for private, instrument, sea plane and commercial ratings. “Brian is very well known and respected in the local aviation industry, and we are thrilled to have him lead the ground school course,” said Kim Doebbert, Academic Advisor/Recruiter and Aviation Management Coordinator at Metropolitan State University.

Metropolitan State University is known for its focus on adult learners, especially those seeking to complete their bachelor’s degree or go on to obtain a master’s or doctorate. The consortium is a collaboration of aviation programs at Metropolitan State University; Winona State University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; and St. Cloud State University.

Classes will take place at Metropolitan State’s Midway campus on Tuesday evenings, Aug. 23 through Nov. 29. Cost is about $900. It is the only ground school being offered at a Twin Cities public college or university. The course is open to the public --- participants do not have to be enrolled at Metropolitan State.
