AD NUMBER: 2010-02-01

MANUFACTURER: Turbomeca S.A. Model Arriel 1B, 1D, and 1D1 Turboshaft Engines
SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive 2010-02-01

SUMMARY: This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as:

The rupture of the Reduction Gear Box Intermediate Pinion may result in an overspeed of the Power Turbine and, subsequently, an uncommanded engine in-flight shutdown. This could lead to an emergency autorotation landing on a single-engine helicopter.

We are issuing this AD to prevent the rupture of the reduction gear box intermediate pinion, which could result in an overspeed of the power turbine, an uncommanded in-flight shutdown of the engine, and an emergency autorotation landing.
