African Continent To See ILS Upgrades

Contract Awarded To Northrop Grumman For Normarc 7000B System

The African air navigation safety agency Agence pour la Securite de la Navigation Aerienne en Afrique et a Madagascar (ASECNA) has awarded a multi-million dollar contract to Northrop Grumman Corporation's Europe-based air traffic management subsidiary, Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, for a continent-wide upgrade and renewal of their instrument landing systems.

Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems proposed their Normarc 7000B instrument landing system (ILS) in an international RFP. ASECNA has a large number of Normarc 7000 ILS already in service throughout the continent. The ILS will be installed and commissioned by French partner company GTIE Air & Defense of the Vinci Group on a turnkey basis. The systems will be installed and commissioned over a five-year period at 13 different airports and sites in Africa.

"We look forward to continuing our working relationship with ASECNA and to upgrading the instrument landing systems across Africa," said Eldar Hauge, managing director of Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems in Norway.

The Normarc 7000 ILS was developed in 1995 and has since gone through several updates and upgrades. The 7000B ILS is the latest generation of the company's ILS products.
