NORAD Clarifies Incident Involving A Mexican Helicopter

Chopper Flew Into U.S. Airspace Over The Weekend

NORAD has issued a statement it says clarifies its position on an incident which happened over the weekend involving a Mexican Navy helicopter in a Texas border town. The NORAD statement reads in full:

"On Tuesday, a Mexican military helicopter flew into U.S. airspace for a short time in southern Texas. Customs Border and Protection became aware of the incident when it was visually sighted crossing the border into U.S. airspace by a CBP officer. CBP Air & Marine Operations Center and the Continental United States NORAD Region became aware of the situation shortly thereafter.

The CBP AMOC Mexican liaison officer contacted the appropriate Mexican authorities to notify the Mexican helicopter to depart U.S. airspace. The helicopter departed soon thereafter.

In the event where an aircraft's intention is unknown, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) based in Colorado Springs, CO, would have responded."
