New Video Of 2013 Prison Escape Surfaces

Shows Prisoners Being Plucked From The Roof Of A Building By A Hijacked Helicopter

A video clip of a dramatic prison escape has surfaced in Canada during an unrelated trial of one of the escapees.

The clip, reportedly shot by prison guards in Quebec, shows the prisoners being plucked from the roof of a building by a helicopter that had been hijacked for the purpose, according to the U.K. newspaper The Independent. It was shown during a trial of Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau, one of the two escapees, unrelated to the prison break.

Hudon-Barbeau, his fellow escapee Danny Provencal, and their accomplices Billi Beaudoin and Steven Mathieu Marchisio were arrested just hours after the aircraft dropped in over the prison and the two climbed a rope dangling from the helo.

Beaudoin and Marchisio had hired the helicopter and then forced the pilot to fly over the prison to help the two prisoners escape.

The president of the Peace Officers in Correctional Services of Quebec (SASPQC), Mathieu Lavoie said at the time that the guards were unable to interfere during the escape. He said that it was impossible to determine at the time who was on board the helicopter and whether they were armed. And, he said, "(i)t's only in the movies that you can shoot down a helicopter with a handgun."
