"Axe" Is Ready For His Close-Up
Aero-News Correspondent
Pete Tobin recently caught up with one of the stars of Michael
Mann's new film, "Miami Vice"... not in Hollywood, but at the EAA's
Oshkosh AirVenture air show.
When the Adam A500 twin engine aircraft, N501AX ("Axe" to his
friends) was asked why he's here and not in Hollywood with his
costars for the premier of "Miami Vice" the aircraft was quick to
point out Wittman Field was where the true fans are.
"I don't care that I'm big right now! I don't need to be with a
bunch of Hollywood kiss-ups," said the twin turbocharged airplane.
"The people here at Oshkosh, they're my real fans. They stood in
line to see me when I was just a static display. Now everyone wants
me. Ain't happenin'. I dance with the date that brought me to the
party."
When questioned about his new found stardom, the aircraft had
this to say, "I'm getting real sick of this over night sensation
nonsense! I've been doing air shows for three years. That's live
theater. That's perfecting the craft face-to-face with the
audience."
"You want a pretty-boy, someone just to look good on camera, go
talk to Farrell," said the Adam 500. "When it comes to real actors,
there's De Niro, there Nicholson and there's me."
When asked about his own performance in "Miami Vice" the
aircraft responded with, "When Michael Mann needed a 250 kts
pull-out from a jungle he didn't turn to Farrell or Foxx. He turned
to me. Why? 'Cause he knows that I'm a one-take professional. I
carry this movie! I don't get a stunt double. I don't hang out in
an air conditioned trailer while the grown ups do the work. I put
my stuff up on the screen. Ask Farrell who the real action star
is.
"I've got a lot on my plate development wise," the plane
continued. "My people are in talks with Spielberg. Pacino wants to
work with me, kind of a "Scarface II" thing. The truth is, I don't
know if I want to do another film... unless I get to direct."
