Five Fatally Injured In Colorado Accident

Plane Went Down Near Erie Municipal Airport

Five people aboard a Piper PA-46 airplane were fatally injured when it went down northwest of the main runway of Erie Municipal Airport (KEIK) near Denver, CO Sunday.

The Denver Post reports that the plane was on approach to Erie Municipal at about 11:50 a.m. local time. It had departed from Centennial Airport. The plane was registered to Real Estate School LLC, which is owned by real estate lawyer Oliver Frascona, who lives in Erie's Air Park neighborhood.

A witness, Jan Culver, said she observed the airplane flying "really, really low" and heard the engine "sputtering" and "then there was no sound." She said she has some medical knowledge, and went to the accident scene. When she arrived, she said the plane was upside down, and some of the passengers were out of the plane. Two were reportedly transported to area hospitals, but there were no survivors.

The weather was reported to be clear but breezy, with gusts clocked to 18 miles per hour.

The names of those fatally injured are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
