Jeppesen, Avidyne Team Up To Offer Electronic Charts

Jeppesen and Avidyne have integrated Jeppesen's JeppView Electronic Airway Manual charts into Avidyne's FlightMax Entegra and FlightMax EX500 avionics systems, thus greatly reducing the amount of paper required on board the flight deck of Avidyne-equipped aircraft.

In addition, managing and accessing flight critical information has become more efficient. No longer are pilots required to file revision updates in their traditional Airway Manuals. Rather, Jeppesen will now send customers a CD every two weeks and the chart data will simply be uploaded into the Avidyne system. Subscribers may also load JeppView on a computer in order to display and print charts while on the ground.

JeppView is the only electronic terminal chart product available that offers a worldwide library, and geo-referenced approach chart plan-views and airport diagrams. Geo-referencing, along with GPS position data, allows the application to generate an aircraft position spotter for unmatched situational awareness during the demanding approach and landing phase of flight and while operating on the airport environment.

Avidyne is the latest major avionics manufacturer to integrate JeppView charts into their system, continuing the shift toward integrated electronic flight information solutions. Strong market demand is driving the shift, as operators in nearly every segment of aviation move to streamline information management through digital solutions. Piper, Cirrus, Lancair, Adam Aircraft and Eclipse Aviation are among the many airframe manufacturers offering the Avidyne integrated flight deck.

"We are very excited to be working with Avidyne and adding them to the growing list of avionics companies that are partnering with us to unleash the age of the paperless flight deck," said Kevin Collins, Jeppesen senior vice president, Business and General Aviation. "In the past two years we have seen a clear shift toward electronic charts as pilots and regulators become familiar and comfortable with the new technology."
