Lockheed Martin CEO Meets With President-Elect Trump On F-35 Costs

Says The Price Of The Aircraft Will Come Down

Shortly after President-elect Donald Trump took to twitter to blast defense contractor Lockheed Martin over the cost of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, company CEO Marillyn Hewson made a pledge to Trump to reduce the cost of the airplane to the U.S. taxpayer.

Hewson travel to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL to meet with the President-elect prior to Christmas, according to a report from Reuters. She is said to have given Trump her personal commitment to bring down the cost of the program, the most expensive weapons program in U.S. history.

Trump also used Twitter to ask Boeing to "price out" an upgraded Super Hornet as an alternative to the Lightning II ... a position dismissed as unrealistic by many aviation and defense analysts.

The F-35 accounted for about 20 percent of Lockheed's revenue last year. The company's shares fell about 1.3 percent on Friday after the President-elect's Tweets.
