Couple At NTSB News Conference Threatened By A Pistol-Packing Homeowner

Relatives Of A Pilot Who Died In A Plane Crash Parked In The Wrong Driveway

The sister and brother-in-law of a pilot who was fatally injured when his plane went down in Friendswood near Galveston, TX were threatened by a man with a gun Thursday while attempting to attend an NTSB news conference on the crash.

James Willprecht was the pilot of the plane that went down in a residential subdivision of Friendswood, Texas Wednesday. His sister Renee Campbell and her husband were planning to meet with NTSB officials at the crash site, and pulled into the driveway of a home across the street from where a news conference was to be held. The Galveston County Daily News reports that when they got back to their truck, a man on a riding lawn mower started yelling at them to get the truck off his property. When they tried to explain, he reportedly pulled a gun from the waistband of his shorts. Mrs. Campbell started honking the truck's horn, and her husband moved it to the road.

The event happened in full view of several witnesses, including the media who had gathered for the news conference. The homeowner, 74-year-old Walter Decherd, was charged with aggravated assault, according to Bob Wieners, Frinedswood's Chief of Police.
