The Sporty’s Foundation Has Active Start To 2017

Mission Is To Ensure Young People Are Exposed To Aviation Opportunities

The mission of Sporty's Foundation is to help ensure young people are exposed to aviation opportunities both as a career and a lifestyle.  To this end, the board of The Sporty's Foundation has pledged the foundation to be the sole funder of the Aviation Exploring Scholarships in 2017. Aviation Exploring is a hands-on program open to young women and men from the 6th grade to 20 years old with an interest in learning more about careers in the field of aviation.

At the Women in Aviation International annual conference in March, The Sporty’s Foundation presented the Flight Training Scholarships for AMT working on small aircraft. This year, Jordan Bankhead of Logan, Utah, and Gerald Murahwi of South Africa will be able to earn a Recreational pilot certificate, which will help them understand airplanes and their pilots better.

The Sporty’s Foundation also awarded a $1000 grant for tools for an aircraft mechanic as part of the Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance (AWAM) scholarship program. As AWAM celebrated its 20th anniversary, Abigail Lopez (pictured) was awarded these funds.

“Unlike other charitable endeavors, all administrative costs for The Sporty’s Foundation are assumed by Sporty’s,” says Sporty’s Founder and Chairman Hal Shevers. “Those who share our vision of ensuring a diverse and robust general aviation community can be assured that every cent they give will go directly to programs that I have personally vetted and approved.”

Online contributions to The Sporty’s Foundation are being accepted, either as a one-time payment or a recurring monthly charge. As a 501(c)3 foundation, all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
