Senate Confirms Buttigieg As SecTrans

Aero-Alphabets Falling All Over Themselves to Congratulate -- Despite Doubts

The United States Senate has confirmed Pete Buttigieg as Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary, following his nomination by President Biden.

Much of the aviation industry has been falling all over itself to congratulate the new SecTrans despite the fact that this particular Secretary has a less than impressive record or actually working knowledge of the transportation industry... having served as Mayor of a medium-sized city being the primary experience being touted by his adherents. While there is no question that the new secretary is a well-educated man, a number of industry experts have privately expressed concern about the learning curve that will be required o bring Secretary Buttigieg to a point of comprehension about the more critical aspects of each of the major transportation systems and their respective needs and technologies.

President Joe Biden nominated Buttigieg on Dec. 16, and he appeared before a hearing held by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation to consider his nomination on Jan 21.

Buttigieg, as previously noted, is the former mayor of South Bend, IN, and a former Democratic presidential candidate. In 2009 and 2013, Buttigieg was commissioned as a Navy intelligence officer while also serving as mayor. He became a lieutenant when he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2014, and earned the Joint Service Commendation Medal for his counterterrorism work. He is a graduate of Harvard University and an Oxford Rhodes Scholar.
