Chinese Airline Pilot Sent To Jail Over 2010 Accident

Sentenced To Three Years In Connection With Fatal Injury Of 44 People

Airline captain Qi Quanjun was making his first flight from Harbin, China to Yichin in August, 2010 when the plane he was flying went down, resulting in the fatal injury of 44 people. Fifty-two others were seriously injured in the accident.

Qi was sentenced to a three-year prison term last week for his role in the accident, according to zeenews.india.com. He reportedly attempted to land the plane with the weather below minimums, according to the Yihcun district people's court.

The court also said Qi did not properly evacuate the passengers, or stay with those injured after the accident. He was charged with leaving the plane without authorization.

The co-pilot was one of those fatally injured in the crash.
