B-29 Doc Adds Tampa Bay Airfest And Sarasota To Its March Schedule

One Of 1,644 B-29 Superfortress Aircraft Built By The Boeing Company In Wichita

The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour will land in Sarasota and Tampa Bay, FL, in  March. B-29 Doc will be a participant in the 2024 Tampa Bay AirFest at MacDill Air Force Base, March 29 and 30, and will host ride flight opportunities in Sarasota prior to the air show. B-29 Doc is one of 1,644 B-29 Superfortress aircraft built by the Boeing Company in Wichita during World War II and one of only two B-29 bombers still airworthy and flying today. “The connection between MacDill Air Force Base and the B-29 Superfortress dates back to post-World War II when MacDill served as a B-29 training base for the U.S. Strategic Air Command,” said Lt. Registration Still Open for Air Race Classic

Route Announced, Running from Carbondale, Illinois to Loveland Colorado on 11-State Trip

Women from across the country and around the world will take off on June 18th from the Southern Illinois Airport in Carbondale, Illinois as they strike out on a 2,628-statute mile competition across 11 states. They'll pull into the station a few days later, on Friday, June 21st when they show up at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport in Loveland, Colorado. It will make the 47th year the Air Race Classic has been open since getting its start as the Powder Puff Derby or Women's Air Derby in 1929.

Following the resignation of Stephen Kurtzahn, IAC Executive Director up through the end of January, Oshkosh native, Tim Dahnke, will be joining the IAC team on Monday, March 4 as the new IAC Executive Director. He will have responsibility over all IAC operations, including managing events such as the IAC presence at AirVenture and the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships. In the role, he will interact with the IAC Board of Directors and building support for the IAC membership and IAC chapters while continuing to grow the relationship between IAC and EAA.

Following a vote by ALPA's Executive Board, the WestJet Encore pilot group received a $1 million grant from ALPA’s “war chest,” known as the Major Contingency Fund (MCF). This funding will reportedly go a long way in supporting the WestJet Encore pilots in their self-help efforts, which could begin as early as April 17, 2024, should conciliation fail to result in a ratified agreement between the pilots and WestJet Encore management.

Just Chillin' -- USAF T-7 Red Hawk Endures Extreme Temps During Climate Tests

The T-7A Will Eventually Replace The T-38C Talon

A T-7A Red Hawk, the Air Force’s newest trainer aircraft, has completed a month-long trial of extreme weather inside the McKinley Climatic Laboratory, Feb. 23. The Boeing test aircraft endured real temperatures ranging from 110 degrees to minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit as well as heavy humidity conditions. All of those scenarios created within the lab’s 55,000 square foot test chamber. Once the lab technicians created the extreme environments, Boeing and Air Force aircrew performed system operations and engine runs to evaluate the aircraft’s reactions in those scenarios.

International Tactical Training Centre Trains Ukrainian AF Instructors

A Formal Request For Training Has Been Submitted To The Canadian Government 

The International Tactical Training Centre tells ANN that it is currently training two Ukrainian Air Force Instructors on a Fighter Lead-in Programme. The training commenced in October 2023 and is the result of an extended collaboration with the Ivan Kozhedub National Air Force University (KNAFU). ITTC agreed on a dedicated syllabus for each of three classes of cadets at the university who are awaiting the opportunity to complete the training to NATO Phase IV standard on ITTC’s L-39 jets, the same platform they trained on in the Ukraine, but featuring an upgraded cockpit.
