Women from across the country and around the world will take off on June 18th from the Southern Illinois Airport in Carbondale, Illinois as they strike out on a 2,628-statute mile competition across 11 states. They'll pull into the station a few days later, on Friday, June 21st when they show up at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport in Loveland, Colorado. Following the resignation of Stephen Kurtzahn, IAC Executive Director up through the end of January, Oshkosh native, Tim Dahnke, will be joining the IAC team on Monday, March 4 as the new IAC Executive Director. He will have responsibility over all IAC operations, including managing events such as the IAC presence at AirVenture and the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships. In the role, he will interact with the IAC Board of Directors and building support for the IAC membership and IAC chapters while continuing to grow the relationship between IAC and EAA.

Following a vote by ALPA's Executive Board, the WestJet Encore pilot group received a $1 million grant from ALPA’s “war chest,” known as the Major Contingency Fund (MCF). This funding will reportedly go a long way in supporting the WestJet Encore pilots in their self-help efforts, which could begin as early as April 17, 2024, should conciliation fail to result in a ratified agreement between the pilots and WestJet Encore management.

A T-7A Red Hawk, the Air Force’s newest trainer aircraft, has completed a month-long trial of extreme weather inside the McKinley Climatic Laboratory, Feb. 23. The Boeing test aircraft endured real temperatures ranging from 110 degrees to minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit as well as heavy humidity conditions. All of those scenarios created within the lab’s 55,000 square foot test chamber. Once the lab technicians created the extreme environments, Boeing and Air Force aircrew performed system operations and engine runs to evaluate the aircraft’s reactions in those scenarios.

A Formal Request For Training Has Been Submitted To The Canadian Government 

The International Tactical Training Centre tells ANN that it is currently training two Ukrainian Air Force Instructors on a Fighter Lead-in Programme. The training commenced in October 2023 and is the result of an extended collaboration with the Ivan Kozhedub National Air Force University (KNAFU). ITTC agreed on a dedicated syllabus for each of three classes of cadets at the university who are awaiting the opportunity to complete the training to NATO Phase IV standard on ITTC’s L-39 jets, the same platform they trained on in the Ukraine, but featuring an upgraded cockpit.

Analysis: On the downwind leg of the traffic pattern the pilot receiving instruction and the flight instructor were having a conversation about when to extend the landing gear, as the pilot receiving instruction was new to this airplane.
