Jurn And Greco Among The Participants In The 2010 Air Race Classic

All Female Air Race Born Of The Powder Puff Derby

ANN's own Kristen Jurn and fellow aviatrix, Mayte Greco, are two of the pilots entered in this year's 2010 Air Race Classic, an all women race which attracts a wide range of pilots from around the world. Beginning in Fort Myers, Florida, the 34th annual race will travel through Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and West Virginia to finish in Frederick Maryland three days later. The race is conducted entirely VFR and covers 2,483 statute miles in four days.

Kirsten Jurn

Jurn and Mayte have picked up a sponsorship from Abingdon Watches, which are designed specifically for female pilots. In an effort to promote women in aviation, Abingdon Watches has donated two watches from the Amelia Collection to help "assist" Jurn and Greco as the fly through nine states June 22nd to the 25th. Along with their donation, Abingdon Watches will be following the race closely and updating fans through the Abingdon Watches Facebook fan page.

Mayte Greco

Kristen Jurn, a 1,200 hour pilot, has participated in the Air Race Classic twice before (2007 and 2008) and Mayte Greco, a 7,500 hour pilot, will be participating for the first time this year. The two are extremely active in the aviation industry and are active members of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and Women in Aviation.

This year marks the 100th year of licensed female pilots.
