DeltaHawk Goes Inverted...

But in A Good Way!

DeltaHawk, Inc. has told ANN of the initial testing of the inverted version of its jet fueled V-4 turbo-diesel aircraft engine. The proof of concept engine was fired up for the first time on Thursday, 25 July. The initial test included numerous runs and re-starts, including a power run at 2300 RPM turning a 60 X 80 pusher propeller.

Fuel, cooling and lubrication system operation was consistent with values determined for the DH160V4 upright engine which is already in flight testing. The engine can be operated in tractor or pusher configuration.

The inverted engine is a milestone for DeltaHawk, Inc. Inverted configuration makes the engine adaptable to most experimental and certified airframes without major alterations or cowling changes. DeltaHawk is seeking Application Development and Beta Test Partners for this new engine. Beta engine deliveries will begin in the 4th quarter of 2003 and customer availability starts mid-year 2004.

DeltaHawk To Be Seen at Oshkosh

The DeltaHawk team will have its usual booth # 4154 in the West aisle of Building D at AirVenture 2003.  In addition, the DeltaHawk powered Velocity (currently used as flight test vehicle) will be displayed on the Velocity display at Oshkosh.  The top engine cowl will be removed to permit viewing the engine installation.
