Northrop Grumman Awarded FAA NAS Maintenance Work Contract

Company Awarded Initial Design, Implementation Contract In 2002

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a follow-on contract by the Federal Aviation Administration to maintain the National Airspace System's Adaptation Services Environment (NASE), which allows users to access aeronautical and "adaptation" information.

Adaptation is a collection of data that describes the airspace, geography, equipment and procedures required to properly configure each air traffic control system, according to the company.

The NASE provides access to National Airspace System support applications, services, and data via secure intranet and Internet connections. The NASE portal allows authorized users to efficiently collect, modify and securely distribute aeronautical and adaptation data necessary to maintain the National Airspace System.

"As the leading provider of aeronautical information to the National Airspace System, Northrop Grumman is committed to our long-standing partnership with the FAA, and we will continue to provide a robust system for efficient user access," said Linda Mills, president of Northrop Grumman IT's Civilian Agencies group.

In support of the FAA's Software Engineering Resource Center's Adaptation Improvement Program, Northrop Grumman will provide system maintenance for the NASE. The scope of NASE work under this contract includes maintaining a secure data repository, providing customized data extraction and transformations, enhancing data distribution and notification capabilities, and enabling efficient user collaboration.

Work on the contract will be conducted in Atlantic City, NJ and Euless, TX over one base year with four one-year options. If fully extended the contract would be worth about $7.5 million, according to the Associated Press.

Northrop Grumman's Information Technology sector was awarded the initial contract for the design, implementation and testing of the NASE in 2002.
