Prince Harry: Flying A Helicopter Not As Easy As All That

Prince Harry Says Math Is Tough

The man third in line to the British throne is having a tough time with the math involved in learning to fly helicopters, according to multiple reports in the British press. He's five months into training learning to fly front-line Apache helicopters.

In an interview in New York, Prince Harry said he was surprised by the intensity of the training to be a combat pilot. "There's times when I thought, you know, I'm not really cut out for this mentally," the Prince admitted.

"I hope I've got the physical skills to fly a helicopter. But mentally, there are exams and everything. I mean, I can't do maths. I gave that up when I left school, as anyone does at that age. But I've been throwing myself back in the deep end."

Helicopter training is not the first job Harry has held since graduation from Sandhurst, a British military academy.  He was first a tank commander, but was not deployed to Iraq because of security concerns. He later was a forward air controller in Afghanistan.
