Missiles Fired at Israeli Charter

On Thanksgiving morning, an Israeli 757 charter aircraft, a weekly flight from Mombasa, Kenya, to Tel Aviv, Israel's Ben Gurion Airport, was fired on by two missiles. The pilot of the flight, which held 260 souls on board, said that, as the gear came up, he and the copilot felt "a little bump, and then saw two streaks in the sky."

The missiles, thought to be SA-7 (similar to a US Army Redeye), shoulder-fired, heat-seeking units, did no apparent damage to the airplane, so the pilot decided to continue the five-hour flight to Israel, which he did, without further incident.

By the time the airliner got into Israeli airspace, the nation was on high alert, and the Arkia (originally misidentified as El Al) 'liner was given F-15 escort. At that time, the pilot told the PAX some of what he then knew for certain about the circumstances of the flight. The landing was normal; no one was injured.

Updates as we have them...
