Police In Norwich, U.K. Respond To Facebook Drone Video

Aircraft Flew Near Norwich Castle In Violation Of CAA Regulations

A video captured by a drone flying near Norwich Castle in the U.K. brought a rebuke to the pilot from local authorities.

The website EDP24 reports that the video posted recently to Facebook by an unnamed user carried the caption "Maybe how a bird looks at this." But the flight was made in violation of several CAA rules regulating the operation of drones in the U.K., including the flight of drones within 150 feet of people and 500 feet of "built-up areas" and crowds.

"After being made aware of this illegal drone flight in Norwich, officers investigated the matter and identified the operator who has since been spoken to and given words of advice regarding their actions," said PC Thomas Munday, from Norfolk Constabulary's community safety neighborhood policing team. "Any drone flights within the restricted air space surrounding an airport will be prosecuted.

"Given the increase in use of such devices, we are looking at ways to help educate members of the public about the legal use of drones," he said.

The person who posted the video was "given words of advice" from local authorities, and the video has been deleted from the social media site.
