"I think right now the demand for the capability that the unmanned system provides is only increasing. Even as the surge ends, I suspect the deployment of the unmanned systems will not go down, particularly for larger systems."

Source: Army Col. Bob Quackenbush, deputy director for Army Aviation, commenting on the increase in operations by unmanned aerial vehicles in combat zones in 2007. UAVs have accumulated over 500,000 flight hours to date... and, as the military increasingly relies on such vehicles to perform hazardous duties once reserved for manned aircraft, that number will only go up.
