Going Back To Its Roots
When the
Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association was formed in 1939, a large
part of its mandate was to keep general aviation affordable. Now,
under a new agreement with AIG Aviation, qualified AOPA members can
receive a 10% renewal discount on their renter's insurance.
AOPA members who have a renter's policy through AIG Aviation and
have been loss and violation free for the current policy year will
be eligible for the 10% discount when they renew their policy.
"It's our way of rewarding those pilots who keep a clean flying
record and maintain this important coverage. Every pilot who rents
or borrows aircraft should have this coverage. An FBO's insurance
policy typically does not cover the renter," said Greg Sterling,
executive vice president and general manager of AOPA Insurance
Agency (AOPAIA).
Higher Limits
"Even
if you are covered under the FBO policy for liability, the limit
may not be adequate, and relying upon the insurance coverage of
someone else is a risky proposition at best. The new discount is
designed to recognize the value of our repeat customers and make it
more affordable for all pilots to maintain the critical non-owned
coverage they need. It's just one more way AOPA is committed to
making sure you and your family are protected every time you fly,"
Sterling added.
In order to qualify for the 10% renter renewal discount, the
current policyholder pilot must be loss and violation free for the
previous 12 months. Also, the policy must be renewed within 30 days
after policy expiration. Prior to renewal, policyholders will
receive a renewal application, which must be updated and returned
to determine discount eligibility.
