New Tuned Exhaust System Introduced For Maule MX7

Will Be Available For Both Conventional And Tricycle Gear Versions Of The Airplane

Power Flow Systems of Daytona Beach, FL, in close cooperation with Maule Air, Inc., in Moultrie, GA, has recently unveiled a new Tuned Exhaust System for both the tail-wheel and tricycle gear versions of Maule’s iconic MX7 series of aircraft powered by four cylinder Lycoming engines.

Accommodating MX7’s with either the Lycoming O-320 or O-360 engine, Power Flow’ s newest Tuned Exhaust incorporates all of the features that are part of the company’s widely acclaimed design and which have been well-proven by the more than 4,300 Power Flow Systems purchased, installed and flying worldwide since 1999.

According to Mr. Darren Tilman, Power Flow’s General Manager and Chief Test pilot, improved performance was a key objective of Power Flow’s design team.  Carefully documented flight tests were conducted with a full engine analyzer and showed impressive results as compared to flying with the original (stock) exhaust system, including:

  • True Airspeed increased by 4 – 7 mph (depending on altitude and power setting) for a slightly higher (.2 - .35 GPH) fuel burn.
  • Fuel Burn decreased from 9.1 GPH to 8.1 GPH at economy cruise speed (115 mph indicated / 134 mph true).
  • An increase of 12% in the average rate of climb between 1,000’ and 8,500’ msl.

Flights were conducted at the same weights, using the same pilots and techniques and the results were corrected to standard air temperature.

After observing these before and after flight tests, Ray Maule, son of founder B.D. Maule and currently quarterbacking operations at the company said: “I was impressed with my first flight in the Maule with the Power Flow exhaust.  An impressive speed gain, it seemed quieter and more responsive.”

“We have been really impressed with what we have seen so far and the Power Flow’s performance numbers.  We intend to offer the Power Flow as an option on New Maule aircraft once it is approved," said Brent Maule, V.P. of Sales for Maule Air.

Maule Air and Power Flow will announce further details, pricing and the terms, conditions and discounts available for initial deposit holders at the upcoming Maule Factory Fly-in to be held November 1 - 2 in Moultrie, GA.
