Just Ask Someone
By Rose Dorcey, ANN Correspondent
"Just Ask Someone" is
the theme of the 2005 Membership Campaign that was announced at the
16th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference in Dallas.
The campaign highlights the power of one person to grow Women in
Aviation, according to President Peggy Chabrian.
Chabrian and WAI member Ruth Maestre revealed details of the
campaign that is designed to "spread the word about the good things
happening in Women in Aviation, International."
Both Chabrian and Maestre encouraged every member to "Just Ask
Someone" if they are interested in becoming a member of the
organization. Chabrian said many times when perspective members are
asked why they haven't already joined the organization; their
response is simply that no one had asked them. Many women (and men)
are not aware of the tremendous benefits to being a member of the
organization, such as the ability to network and find mentors in
diverse aviation backgrounds and the vast scholarship opportunities
available. In nine years, Women in Aviation, International has
given 422 women over $3.5 million in scholarships.
The "Just Ask Someone" membership campaign offers substantial
prizes to recruiters. Grand prize is registrations for two, hotel
accommodations and airline tickets to the 2007 International Women
in Aviation Conference. Prizes will be awarded to those who recruit
members in increments at 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20. Eligible recruiters
will be put in prize drawings for a SoftComm headset, a Sporty's
SP-200 transceiver, a DVD player, and many other prizes.
Women in Aviation officials will also be on the lookout for
those wearing "I Got One" buttons -- buttons that make recruiters
eligible to win WAI dollars. "Secret Spotters" will be at several
aviation events, including EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh; and the
AOPA and NBAA conventions.
New members must sign up by March 15, 2006.
