Dutch Police Officer Accused Of Selling MH17 Artifacts

Had Allegedly Placed Them On Online Auction Site

A Dutch Police officer has been accused of selling items from MH17, a Malaysia Airlines 777 that went down in eastern Ukraine in July of 2014, which the Dutch Safety Board said was hit by a BUK ground-to-air missile.

The items from the airliner appeared on the online auction site Marktplaats, according to a report from RT Novosti. The law enforcement officer was taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of embezzlement, according to a statement from Dutch police. They say he attempted to sell a piece of the aircraft, a packet of tissues, and clothing worn by one of the investigators at the scene.

Dutch television NOS reports that the asking price for the three items was about $1,586. Police are working to determine which of the items were actually from the scene.

The website said in a statement that the postings, which were "objectionable and unethical," were removed from the site. They said they were fully cooperating with authorities in the investigation. It was not known if any of the items were actually sold.
