Promotional Blimp On The Loose In Canada

Pilots Asked To Keep Watch For A Big Flying Budweiser Can

Transport Canada has issued a warning to pilots in New Brunswick, Canada to keep watch for a promotional blimp that broke free of its tether Saturday.

If its still in the air it should be easy to spot. It looks like a big red-and-white Budweiser can.

The 65-foot-long blimp belongs to Lebatt Breweries of Canada, and it was being displayed in southern New Brunswick when it slipped its mooring. It was last seen drifting leisurely to the northeast at about 3,600 feet. The Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail reports that Transport Canada estimated that the helium-filled advertising piece would probably run out of lift and descend somewhere near Sussex, New Brunswick. When that might occur was an open question.

The blimp included a hockey goal light and is often seen a hockey games around Canada.

Aviation authorities in Moncton and Saint John in New Brunswick were also informed about the wayward blimp.
