Control Vision Introduces A Pair Of Electronic Flight Bags

Raven Fills Gap Between PDAs and Tablets, Anywhere XP™ Brings EFB Functionality to Tablets/Laptops

Control Vision has taken a bold new step with their product line and they're showing off the results this week. Control Vision Corp. will be previewing the Raven this week -- a new portable computing device for general aviation and Anywhere XP™, a suite of Electronic Flight Bag applications for tablets and laptops.

Raven is a completely solid-state handheld computer built by Control Vision with a 6.5-inch diagonal color touch screen. Popular Control Vision applications including Anywhere Map®, Anywhere WX® and Pocket Plates® run on this new large-screen platform using the Windows CE.NET operating system. Additional tools such as checklists and pilots' operating handbooks can be shown on the Raven with display applications such as Adobe Acrobat Reader®.

Jay Humbard, President and CEO of Control Vision said, "Raven fills a functionality gap between PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant handhelds) and full size tablet computers. It has a larger, higher resolution display than a PDA but retains PDA virtues such as portability, instant boot-up, fully dimmable touch screen, and durability-there are no moving parts."

The system is being designed for both general and commercial aviation. Control Vision will pursue FAA certification for the Raven under Advisory Circular AC120-76A as a Class 2 EFB device.

VP Engineering, Greg Yotz stressed the versatility of the new system. "We've put in a Compact Flash memory expansion slot providing solid-state memory capacity of over 1 Gigabyte (1 GB). A Compact Flash micro-drive can also be added that will extend memory capacity to over 5 GB. Raven runs on ship's power and also has internal rechargeable batteries for backup. Various mounting options will be available, depending on cockpit configuration."

Control Vision plans to introduce the system with a retail price of $1,995. Expected initial delivery of the Part 91 non-certified device is June of 2004 with EFB certification to follow.

Anywhere XP breaks new ground for Control Vision as a Windows EFB system tailored for tablet PCs and laptops running Microsoft Windows®. Anywhere XP is fully modular and will be offered as a Map-only system with or without a USB GPS, as a Map plus Weather system with options for GPS and sat phone interface, and as a Complete EFB suite including Moving Map, Weather and Pocket Plates.

Anywhere XP's new moving map features high-resolution terrain and nav data with full flight-planning and course management. The fully integrated weather solution displays NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs and satellite imagery depicting clouds and tops, plus optional lightning strike data. The addition of Pocket Plates completes the EFB package with current NACO approach plates that display real-time GPS position and satisfy FAA requirements for Part 91 use.
