Extra Looks To Newly-Funded FAA For Type Certificate

Company Hopes Passage Of Funding Bill Will Speed Approval

Extra Aircraft, which has plans to move its manufacturing operations to its North American headquarters in Montrose, CO, hopes that the recent passage of a long-term funding bill for the FAA will expedite the approval of the type certificate for the Extra EA 500 and 330 LP aircraft.

The German company applied for the TCs over a year ago, and is still waiting for final approval of the paperwork. The Montrose Daily Press reports that the delayed approvals have put construction of the manufacturing plant on hold.

Ken Keith, CEO of Extra, told the Montrose Economic Development Corporation last week that "What usually takes 90 days has taken 15 months." The company reportedly is considering other locations and options as the certification process drags on.
