Search For Those Lost In Air Moorea Accident Called Off

Sixteen Of 20 Passengers Have Been Recovered

The search for the remaining five passengers lost when an Air Moorea flight went down last month in Tahiti has been called off.

Francis Sacault with French Polynesia's Civil Aviation Authority confirmed to the Australian Associated Press the search ended Tuesday.

"The boat has finished its recovery. It has brought up one body yesterday so there are five left it cannot find. They are not in the plane," he said

The last body has yet to be identified.

As ANN reported, the DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter (type shown above) went down in the ocean shortly after takeoff from the resort island of Moorea, killing all 20 people on board August 9.

A submersible robot was utilized to retrieve the cockpit recorder, as the plane crashed into water almost 2300 feet deep.
