How Many Times Do We Need to Say, 'Check NOTAMS?'
The FAA's Donn Walker confirmed what we had heard. President
Bush was in California Friday, scooping up some cash; that, of
course, meant that normal flying had to follow some additional
rules. those rules, interestingly enough, are published in
NOtice(s) To AirMen (NOTAMs).
Walker confirmed: "We had a couple busted TFRs. On Friday, we
had two TFRs related to the President's visit. The first was Friday
morning through early afternoon, near San Francisco; Then, from
mid-afternoon to around 9PM, we had another one here. There were
some violations of both; two in the San Francisco area; five near
LA."
If you're on this list, please remember to tell your friends who
are still flying, to check their NOTAMs before every flight.
Thanks!
- Hughes OH58 entered TFR at 2,100 feet 8 miles north of Hayward
at 1130.
- Cessna 152 entered TFR at 3,500 feet 10 miles north of San Jose
at 1300.
- Gulfstream AC90 entered TFR at 6,500 feet 20 miles west
northwest of Pomona at 1405.
- Cessna 182 entered TFR at 6,000 feet 5 miles northeast of
Torrance at 1415.
- Cessna 182 entered TFR at unknown altitude 3 miles west
northwest of Los Angeles at 1610.
- Piper PA-28 entered TFR at unknown altitude 7 miles west
northwest of Los Angeles at 1615.
- Cessna 185 entered TFR at 12,500 feet 6 miles southeast of Los
Alamitos at 1700.
We understood from an ANN News-Spy that some
poor slob had rearview mirrors full of F-15s. Lt Cdr. Curtiss
Jenkins of NORAD, however, said there were no scrambles on Friday,
related to the TFRs.
