Industry Safety In Focus at NBAA's Annual Convention

Many Safety-Related Forums To Take Place At Orlando Event

Safety continues to be a paramount concern within the business aviation community. Whether you fly a single-engine airplane or a long-range business jet, operators are encouraged to participate in the wide range of safety-related forums taking place throughout the upcoming NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), which takes place Nov. 1-3 in Orlando, FL.

On Oct. 31, the day before NBAA-BACE formally starts, the NBAA Single-Pilot Safety Standdown will showcase the most effective safety strategies for owner/operators. Through informative presentations by subject matter experts, including National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) member Earl Weener, and in-depth panel discussions by training providers and industry manufacturers, single-pilot operators will benefit from a variety of perspectives on today's most pressing safety issues.

"The focus of this year's standdown is educating single-pilot operators about the importance of effective risk management in single-pilot operations, including practical advice to assist them in creating and executing risk-mitigation strategies," explained Mark Larsen, CAM, NBAA senior manager of safety and flight operations.

On Nov. 3, NBAA's second annual National Safety Forum will further address the most important issues for the continued enhancement of business aviation safety. The day-long forum will begin with NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen presenting NBAA's strategic vision for business aviation safety; Christopher Hart, NTSB chairman, and Peggy Gilligan, FAA associate administrator for aviation safety, will present their own perspectives on business aviation safety.

The NBAA National Safety Forum will also feature interactive panel sessions, centered on a new video presentation that examines a fictitious business aviation accident from the perspective of an NTSB hearing.

"Business aviation operators continuously seek out information for enhancing the safety of our industry," Larsen noted. "In consideration of the importance of these subjects, and so we may reach as large an audience as possible, for the first time NBAA will also webcast the Single-Pilot Safety Standdown and National Safety Forum for those unable to attend NBAA-BACE."

Methods for continuing to build upon the industry's impressive safety record will also be highlighted during a "Meet the Regulators" forum, taking place Wednesday, Nov. 2. Attendees will hear directly from Gilligan and other FAA officials about common questions regarding several important topics, including the sharing of safety data, the upcoming ADS-B equipage deadline, and other important operational issues affecting business aviation.
