Dedication Saturday To Feature Live Webcasts At 1230 EDT
The National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, the
official charity of America's national parks, have announced that
President George W. Bush and Vice President Joe Biden will speak at
this Saturday's dedication ceremony of the Flight 93 National
Memorial in Shanksville, PA.
They'll join Flight 93 family members and friends, special
guests and dignitaries including former First Lady Laura Bush,
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, National Park Service
Director Jon Jarvis, and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, among
others. Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan will
perform at the ceremony.
Through a partnership between National Park Foundation and
History, the dedication will be broadcast LIVE beginning at 1230
EDT on www.Flight93Dedication.org
and at history.com/flight93.
In addition to the dedication ceremony, the 10th anniversary of
the September 11 attacks will be observed at the Flight 93 National
Memorial on the morning of September 11, 2011, beginning at
approximately 0930.
On September 24, 2002, President Bush signed into law the Flight
93 National Memorial Act. The Act created a new national park unit
to commemorate the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who
courageously gave their lives stopping a planned attack on
Washington, DC. The memorial is near Shanksville, Pennsylvania,
where Flight 93 crashed with the loss of its 40 passengers and
crew.
