Air Medical Helo Down In Arizona

No Patient On Board, Two Crewmembers Fatally Injured

A Native Air medical transport helicopter went down late Tuesday in the Superstition Mountains north of Superior, AZ.

There were three crewmembers on board the AS350 B3 aircraft that was en route to Globe, AZ from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, according to a report from television station KNXV. Two of those crewmembers were fatally injured. A third survived and is listed in "very serious critical condition," according to Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu.

The aircraft went down in an area described as remote and rugged. Officials say there is no direct access to the wreckage, but several trailheads have been secured to protect the area.

The aircraft was reported missing about 1800 local time. It was located about three hours later by a DPS aircraft. The survivor used a flashlight to signal the search aircraft, but it was unable to land because of the rugged terrain. The survivor was finally extracted at about 10:15 local time.

The names of those on board have not been released.
