Airborne-Unmanned 02.18.20: UAS Symposium, Unmanned Growlers, Bell Transport 70

Also: UAVOS Upgrades, UAV’s Flight Control Solutions, NASA-Collins Aerospace, Black Swift Technologies

The FAA and AUVSI will co-host the 5th Annual FAA UAS Symposium on June 16-18, 2020, at the Baltimore Convention Center, Baltimore, MD. The Symposium will bring together representatives from the FAA, other government agencies, industry, and academia.

The presenters and panelists will discuss the latest information and advancements related to the diverse uses of unmanned aircraft, and how these new entrants are being safely integrated into the National Airspace System. Boeing and the U.S. Navy successfully flew two autonomously controlled EA-18G Growlers at Naval Air Station Patuxent River as unmanned air systems using a third Growler as a mission controller for the other two. The flights, conducted during the Navy Warfare Development Command’s annual fleet experiment (FLEX) exercises, proved the effectiveness of technology allowing F/A-18 Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers to perform combat missions with unmanned systems. The Bell Autonomous Pod Transport (APT) 70 has flown its first Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flight path 10 miles at Choctaw Nation test site under the UAS Integration Pilot Program (UASIPP). The vehicle also completed an 18 mile flight with 60lbs of payload at Bell’s testing site near Fort Worth, Texas. To date, the APT 70 flight test program has completed over 120 flights. The program will continue to test the vehicles’ endurance, range capabilities, and expand the mission sets. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
