Airborne 05.18.16: SWAPA v SWA, Seaplane NIMBYs, Aerial Liquor Heist

Also: King County Helo's, Aviator Sean O’Donnell, Lycoming SAIB, GAMA/Build A Plane, Norwegian Protest, IL Airports, NORAD/NORTHCOM

The news of Southwest Airlines placing orders for new aircraft is good, but it has led SWAPA, the union representing the pilots of Southwest Airlines, to file a suit against the airline.

The issue, according to the union, is that the carrier is ramping up negotiations pressure by threatening to force its pilots to fly these new aircraft that are not listed in the existing collective bargaining agreement. Southwest Airlines is the launch customer of Boeing's new 737-800 MAX aircraft with scheduled deliveries beginning the first half of 2017. The pilots assert that Southwest may not operate, or threaten to operate, the MAX without a contract provision for this aircraft. Seaplane operations in the Boston Harbor seem like an interesting idea, and last week by two seaplane companies gave it a test try with hopes to begin operations there. The test with the aircraft went well, but political winds were causing some turbulence for the companies. Some local politicians are casting a wary eye towards potential noise and navigation hazards. A Delta Airlines Flight Attendant has been indicted on charges she stole some 1,500 mini-bottles of liquor from Delta Airlines and sold them on the Internet. According to television station WREG, Raches Trevor is charged with theft of property over $10,000, unlawful sale of alcohol, unauthorized transportation of alcohol, and unauthorized storage of liquor for sale. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
