Fisherman Nearly Hit By Falling Prop

Aircraft Lost A Propeller On Approach To Orlando-Melbourne International Airport

An airplane on approach to Orlando-Melbourne International Airport (KMLB) in central Florida Wednesday apparently lost a prop during the approach ... because it nearly hit a man fishing on the Indian River.

Local cable television news channel News13 reports that Turner Breeden was fishing along the bank of the river at the base of the Eau Gallie Causeway when he heard a "giant splash" over his shoulder. When he went to investigate, he found the prop floating in the water about 50 feet off the bank.

At first, Breeden said he thought it might have been something that came off a truck on the causeway, but when he fished it out of the water, it was unquestionably an airplane propeller.

A pilot reported an "issue" according to the report, but was able to safely land on the runway at the airport. The errant prop was turned over to authorities as part of an investigation of the incident.
