Alan Klapmeier Will Design Kestrel In Duluth

Reportedly Taking Advantage Of Former Cirrus Talent Pool

While Alan Klapmeier will be building his new Kestrel turboprop business airplane in Brunswick Maine, the ousted co-founder of Cirrus is reportedly basing his design operation in Duluth, MN. And most of his new hires are said to be former Cirrus employees.

The Duluth News reports that Klapmeier says he eventually expects to employ 30 people in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Duluth. He said the team will work beyond initial development when it comes time to refine the airplane. Klapmeier hopes to be ready to market the 8-place carbon-construction aircraft by 2013.

Klapmeier told the paper that Duluth was a natural spot for standing up his design operation for Kestrel because of the former Cirrus talent pool.
