Inhofe Fundraiser Again Draws Ire Of Animal Rights Group

One Participant Shot Down A UAV Being Used By SHARK To Record The Event

OK ... so we have to admit, there are mixed emotions about this one.

On the one hand, we never advocate shooting down any aircraft ... or even shooting at one. We have done several stories about the consequences about shooting at a UAV.

In this instance, the UAV in question was being flown by a group called Showing Animals Respect and Kindness ... or SHARK. And the animal rights group was using the aircraft to record video of a fundraising event put on by Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe (R) that involves shooting live pigeons.

The group had tried to get the state police to to shut down the fundraiser, held last Friday and Saturday. The group obviously takes exception to the birds being shot for sport, and last year, one of the group's members went undercover and recorded video of the event.

This year they were more overt. SHARK used a UAV to capture video of the event ... until one of the participants shot it down, according to television station KFOR.

SHARK filed a complaint with the local sheriff, who said there was nothing to investigate because shooting down a quadcopter is not illegal.

On that point there will likely be some discussion, because in similar cases elsewhere it has been found that it is illegal to shoot at an aircraft, including a UAV. We're pretty sure we haven't heard the last of this one.
