Finmeccanica: Westland Not For Sale

CEO Responds To Rumors Of Boeing Inquiry

Responding to reports that Boeing made a bid for Wesland, the British arm of helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland, Mauro Moretti, the CEO of Finmeccanica, said that it didn't happen.

And even if it had, he said, Westland is not for sale.

The New York Times reports that the British newspaper The Sunday Times had carried a report that indicated Boeing had made an overture to Finmeccanica about buying the helicopter division this past summer, but had been rejected out of hand.

But Moretti said the rumor was just that. "We didn't have any request and, even if we had, we wouldn't think of selling," he said.

Moretti said AgustaWestland, which was born of a merger of Agusta and Westland in 2001 by owners Finmeccanica and UK engineering group GKN, respectively, is a "strategic sector, it is a core business. It is a sector where we are investing, also in Britain."
