The EAA Young Eagles program that started in 1992 to introduce kids to flight has evolved 25 years later into an aviation movement powered by the world’s largest volunteer air force.
This year will celebrate its 25th anniversary that began with the flight of the 2 millionth Young Eagle by former Young Eagles Chairman and celebrated actor Harrison Ford at EAA AirVenture this year. Ford, who served as volunteer chairman from 2004-2009 and has flown more than 300 young people himself, returned to Oshkosh to fly 16-year-old Jodie Gawthrop as Young Eagle number 2 million. Jeff Bezos says the next flight of New Shepard is going to be dramatic, no matter how it ends. Although the crew and passenger portion of blue origins rocket has an escape system that operates on the same concept as previous space capsules, there is a major difference with Blue Origin. Earlier space capsules used a rocket tower to pull the capsule away from danger, and then the tower had to be jettisoned for landing. Even if the flight was normal, in these earlier spacecraft the tower was always jettisoned. Icon Aircraft, after failing to produce a workable manufacturing operation here in the states, will be shifting
its composites fabrication to a plant to be built in Tijuana, Mexico early next year, according to reports in the Mexican media. It’s reported that the company plans to invest more than $150 million in the plant... All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
