Students Win '02 NBAA Fanning Maint. Scholarship

The NBAA has selected two students to receive the 2002 NBAA William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship. Daniel J. Berdan and Steven J. LaMourea each will receive $2,500 to further their education as they pursue careers as aviation maintenance technicians.

Daniel J. Berdan is a student enrolled in the aviation airframe and powerplant program at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls, MN. A dean's list student, Phi Theta Kappa honor society member and vice president of the school's Professional Aviation Maintenance Association chapter, Berdan expects to graduate in May 2003.

Steven J. LaMourea was accepted for enrollment in the aviation maintenance program at Northland Community and Technical College in 2002. He has experience as a line service and maintenance assistant working at Taconite Aviation in Hibbing, MN. He also holds a B.S. degree in aviation from St. Cloud State University and a private pilot certificate with instrument rating.

This scholarship was named in honor of retired NBAA Staff member William M. Fanning, who was active in maintenance issues during his nearly 20-year tenure at the Association. Through the Fanning Maintenance Scholarship, NBAA annually awards two $2,500 scholarship to applicants who are pursuing careers as maintenance technicians. One award benefits a student who is currently enrolled in an accredited A&P program at an approved Part 147 school. The second award benefits an individual who is not enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an approved A&P program at the time of application.
