"We started in the mid-'90s on certifying the aircraft, and it was a long, hard battle to get to the point of producing one plane per day. It's phenomenal."

Source: Columbia Aircraft Manufacturing's North American sales manager, Mike Schrader, on the company's rollout of its 400th plane on April 27. Formerly known as The Lancair Company, Columbia began producing planes in 2000, and has risen from turbulent times (after a financial backer pulled out in 2002, the company laid off 277 workers) to post record sales in 2005 -- and the company believes that momentum will continue for 2006.
