Moroccan Residents Arrested For Flying UAV Over Royal Residence

RC Helicopter Flight Led To Lengthy Discussion With Authorities

Two men were arrested in Casablanca recently after they reportedly piloted their RC Helicopter over the royal residence in Dar Bouazza.

The two men, one a Moroccan and one a French citizen, were arrested after the three-foot helo equipped with a digital camera buzzed over the residence. The aircraft was intercepted by security forces and the two were soon found to be holding its remote control device.

The Morocco World News reports that the police questioned the two men, who said they had conducted the flight "out of curiosity." The police said they were trying to determine if the location of the flight was coincidental, or if the two were trying to record images inside the compound.

The suspects were released, but the aircraft, its camera, and memory chip remain in police custody. The authorities were also trying to determine what connection exists between the Moroccan and the Frenchman.
