NWA Mechanics To Vote On Latest Offer

But If Approved, Only About 500 Of The 4,400 Laid-Off Workers Would Return To Work

Striking Northwest Airline Mechanics will reportedly have a chance to vote on he latest contract offer from management -- even though, under its terms, only about 500 of the 4,400 union members would actually go back to work.

Under terms of the offer, if IAMFA mechanics ratify the pact, those not returning to their jobs would receive four-weeks' severance.

As Aero-News reported in real-time, mechanics went on strike August 20th, after NWA offered what the IAMFA termed a "regressive" contract proposal. Since then, the airline has filed for bankruptcy and employees are now concerned that management will exact even more job cuts and pay concessions as it struggles to financially right itself.

Already, pilots and some managers have made concessions as requested by the airline. But more cuts are almost certainly on the way, according to company sources.
